I made it, but I don't love it

Have you ever SLAVED over something you were convinced you would love, and then when it's all done, it just isn't that great? This usually happens with food. Like yesterday, I spent a good part of the afternoon making curry for Brent for supper. I'm not a huge fan, but I thought I might try it. Well, after smelling it for a while, I just couldn't eat it. I'm also that way about certain desserts. If I have made it, somehow it's just not as good as the person's who usually makes it. My sugar cream pie never tastes as good as my mom's. Well, to get to the point; I made this:

I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. I spent hours on the applique work. First I had to make the appliques and then I stitched them down with this beautiful gold thread that was a total BEAST to work with. I think it snagged almost every time I drew the needle through the fabric! I acutally had done this for both sides of the bag, but as I was just finishing the other side, I stepped out of the room for a few minutes and Viv found her way to it, and cut it up. Needless to say I cried and she spent a considerable amount of time listening to why we don't touch scissors and then standing in the corner. So, I just replaced that side with a non-appliqued piece of the striped fabric. I'm not sure if its the size, the colors or what, but I'm just not feeling it. Oh well, maybe I'll try to sell it. Perhaps the next project will be less ambitious.

I think your bag is cute and I love bags like that, but do I hate when that happens. I have been making an I Spy blanket forever and I almost don't want to finish it. I was so excited about it in the beginning, but it took way to long to cut out those little squares.
